The terms, in plain English.
What you get, what you pay, how to cancel, and what you may do with the templates and guidance Motif delivers.
Last updated 4 October 2026
Where things stand today: Motif is open. Accounts, the MCP service, Creator subscriptions and template downloads (the two free starters and the premium template families) are live. Templates are built and tested from the exact archives we deliver. Library guides are original ASV Labs writing and our editorial review of them is in progress: every guide tells your agent whether its current version has been reviewed, and guides not yet reviewed may contain errors, so check their specifics before you rely on them (what “reviewed” means). Nothing in Motif is legal advice.
Who we are
Motif is operated by ASV Labs (asv-labs.com), 2103 Harrison Ave NW, Ste 2 PMB 1098, Olympia, WA 98502, USA. In these terms, "we" means ASV Labs and "you" means the person using Motif.
By creating an account, connecting an agent or subscribing, you agree to these terms. Our privacy page explains how we handle personal data.
The service
Motif gives the coding agent you already use (for example Claude Code, Cursor or Codex) design guidance, design packs, starter templates and deterministic design checks through one connection. Your agent writes the code; Motif supplies the material.
We work to keep the library accurate and useful, but we can't guarantee that anything built with it will look good, meet a standard (such as accessibility or legal compliance) or work with every agent. Check what you ship.
Features may change during early access, and we'll say plainly on the site what is available and what isn't.
Your account
- An account is for one person. Don't share it or its access tokens.
- Keep your access tokens secret. Anything an agent does with your token counts as you. If a token leaks, revoke it from your account page.
- Give us an email address you can receive mail at; that's how we reach you about your account and billing.
Plans and allowances
Free costs nothing and never starts billing on its own: no card needed. Free access lasts 30 days from the day you create your account. After that, using the service requires Creator; your account, projects and data are kept, and anything already delivered to you stays covered by its licence. Accounts created before 4 October 2026 have free access until 3 November 2026. While it lasts, Free includes both free template packs (the studio website and the collection app), the free subset of the guidance library, 100 content operations a month and one project profile.
Creator costs $9 a month (US dollars, plus any tax that applies where you live). Each billing month includes 5,000 content operations, up to 20 new premium template families, up to 500 premium guidance items and 25 project profiles (see pricing). The request-rate and download limits that also apply are shown on the plan page before you pay.
There are no overage charges. When you reach a limit, that part of the service pauses until your allowance resets; we never bill for extra use. Unused allowance doesn't roll over. All tokens, agents and projects on one account share its allowances.
Billing and renewal
Creator is sold through Stripe, which acts as the merchant of record: Stripe (through its Link service) processes the payment, calculates and collects any sales tax or VAT, appears on your statement, and may handle refund requests under its own terms. We never see your full card number. Creator renews automatically every month, on the date you subscribed, and we charge the monthly price each time until you cancel. There is no minimum term.
If a renewal payment fails, you keep Creator access for 72 hours from the renewal date, but you can't activate new template families during that time. If the payment hasn't gone through by then, your paid access ends (and Free applies only if you're still within 30 days of creating your account). Stripe may keep retrying the card for a while after that; if a retry succeeds, Creator access comes back for the rest of that billing month. If you don't want it retried, cancel.
If we change the Creator price, we'll email you between 7 and 30 days before the new price applies to you, and that email will say how to cancel. You can cancel before the change takes effect.
Cancelling and refunds
You can cancel online at any time, without contacting us, on Stripe's billing page. To open it, use the link in your subscription emails (each link works for 30 minutes) or go to Plan & billing in your account (or request an emailed link at motif-join.asv-labs.com/billing/manage). Cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep Creator access until the end of the period you already paid for, then your paid access ends. (Free access lasts only for the first 30 days after you create your account.)
We don't give partial refunds for unused days in a month. If you think you were charged by mistake, email us within 30 days of the charge and we'll look at it. Nothing here limits refund rights you have under the law where you live.
For 30 days after paid access ends, you can re-download the last delivered version of template families you already activated (up to 2 GiB in total). Your project data stays available to export or delete.
What you may do with what Motif delivers
Templates and guidance you receive from Motif are licensed to you, not sold. As long as you follow these terms, you may:
- use them in unlimited end products, for yourself or for clients, including commercial products;
- modify them as much as you like;
- give them to the coding agents and AI tools you use to build your products;
- keep using what Motif already delivered to you, including template families you activated, after you cancel. That licence doesn't end with your subscription. (It covers copies you already have; we don't keep hosting them forever.)
When you give material to your agent, its provider processes it under the provider's own terms and policies. We don't control that.
You may not:
- resell or redistribute the templates or guidance themselves, on their own or as a template pack, UI kit, theme, design system, course material or dataset;
- use them to build a competing design library, template marketplace or guidance service;
- use them to train or fine-tune machine-learning models, or supply them to anyone else for that purpose. Using them in your agent to build your own product is fine.
Some templates include open-source components (for example MIT-licensed code). Those parts stay under their own licences, whose notices ship with the template; nothing here reduces the rights those licences give you.
Acceptable use
Don't:
- try to collect the library in bulk: scraping, enumerating items, or rotating accounts or tokens to get around limits;
- share an account or token with other people, or resell access;
- probe, overload or bypass the service's security or limits;
- use Motif for anything unlawful.
Heavy use within your published allowances is fine and expected. It isn't abuse.
Your project data
Project briefs and design decisions you or your agent save in Motif belong to you. We store them only to provide the service and never share them with other customers. You can export or delete them at any time. Deleted data leaves our live systems within 30 days and drops out of our backups as they rotate.
Suspension and ending
We may pause or close an account that breaks these terms, starting with a warning where we reasonably can. If we close your account for reasons that aren't your fault, we'll refund any unused prepaid time. You can stop using Motif and delete your account whenever you like.
Warranty and liability
Motif is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we disclaim implied warranties such as fitness for a particular purpose, and our total liability for any claim about the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. We aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost profits or lost data. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll update the date above and email active subscribers at least 30 days before the change takes effect, with how to cancel. If you don't agree, you can cancel before then. A change to the price follows the notice rule under Billing and renewal.
Law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, USA, except where the law where you live says otherwise.
