Where this comes from

This page sets out, in more detail, the licence in our Terms of Service ("What you may do with what Motif delivers"). If this page and the Terms ever differ, the Terms apply.

It covers templates and guidance that Motif delivers to you, free or paid. Templates and guidance are licensed to you, not sold.

You may

  • Use them in unlimited end products, for yourself or for clients, including commercial products. An end product is a specific website, app or other product you build; the template is part of it, not the thing being sold.
  • Modify them as much as you like.
  • Hand the finished product to your client. They can run, change and maintain that product.
  • Give them to the coding agents and AI tools you use to build your products. Your agent's provider processes that material under its own terms and policies, which we don't control.

You may not

  • resell or redistribute the templates or guidance themselves, on their own or as a template pack, UI kit, theme, design system, course material or dataset;
  • use them to build a competing design library, template marketplace or guidance service;
  • use them to train or fine-tune machine-learning models, or supply them to anyone else for that purpose. Using them in your agent to build your own product is fine.

After you cancel

The licence doesn't end with your subscription. You keep using what Motif already delivered to you, including template families you activated, under these same rules.

It covers copies you already have; we don't keep hosting them forever. For 30 days after paid access ends you can re-download the last delivered version of families you activated (up to 2 GiB in total).

Open-source parts and assets

Templates include open-source packages (for example MIT-licensed code), fonts under the SIL Open Font License, and images released under CC0 or similar terms. Those parts stay under their own licences, and nothing here reduces the rights those licences give you. Each template lists them in licenses.json, and npm dependencies keep the licences recorded in package-lock.json.
