Acceptable use policy

Use it fully. Don't harvest it.

Motif is built for heavy, everyday use by the agents you work with. This page explains the few things that aren't allowed and what happens if we think something is wrong.

Normal use, including heavy use

All of this is fine and expected:

  • using your whole published allowance, every month;
  • connecting several agents and tools to one account;
  • using Motif for client work and commercial products;
  • subscribing for a month, using what you need, and cancelling.

None of these is abuse, and none of them will get your account reviewed on its own.

Not allowed

  • Collecting the library in bulk: scraping the site or account pages, enumerating item or template ids, or systematically requesting material to build a copy of the library.
  • Getting around limits: rotating accounts, tokens or clients, or opening extra free accounts, to get more than one account's allowance.
  • Sharing access: sharing an account or token with other people, or reselling access to Motif.
  • Attacking the service: probing, overloading or bypassing its security or limits, or trying to reach another customer's data.
  • Redistributing what Motif delivers in ways the template licence doesn't allow.
  • Using Motif for anything unlawful.

How we respond

Limits do most of the work, automatically and visibly: when you reach one, the error says which and when it resets. Beyond that, we step up only as far as a situation needs:

  1. rate limiting, with a clear error and a retry time;
  2. asking you to sign in again in the browser;
  3. a person reviewing the specific activity;
  4. pausing premium retrieval on the account while we sort it out;
  5. closing the account, for a clear and serious breach of the Terms of Service.

We'll warn you first where we reasonably can. During a review you can still reach your account, export your data and cancel your subscription. We don't use an IP address alone to decide anything: people share offices, switch networks and use VPNs.

Disagree with a decision?

Email SaltyEngineer@asv-labs.com from your account's address, say what you were doing, and we'll look at it again and reply.
