How Motif connects to Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor

You connect Motif by adding one remote server. The name is motif, the URL is https://mcp.asv-labs.com/mcp, and the transport is Streamable HTTP. You sign in with OAuth in the browser, or with an agent token for scripts and CI. Signing in from an agent creates a free Motif account if you don't have one. With browser sign-in, no token appears in the command or the config file.

Where the commands live

Motif is a standard remote MCP server. The connect page documents Claude Code, the Claude app, ChatGPT, Grok, Cursor, VS Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Windsurf, Devin, Hermes Agent, OpenClaw, and an Other section.

Commands for each client live on that page only. This page does not copy them. Two copies of a CLI flag will drift, and the doc is the one the product updates.

How far each client has been tested

The status next to each client is how far ASV Labs has tested that client. Read on 5 October 2026:

ClientStatus on the connect pageWhat to do
Claude CodePartly verified. Claude Code detects Motif's browser sign-in. A full end-to-end workflow check is in progress.Run the command from the connect page, then run /mcp, pick motif, and authenticate.
Claude app (web, desktop, or mobile)Not yet verified end to end.Add a custom connector with the server URL.
ChatGPTNot yet verified end to end. Developer mode is required. The connect page says that mode is on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu, on the web.Turn on Developer mode, add the connector, choose OAuth, sign in.
CursorNot yet verified end to end.Add the URL in ~/.cursor/mcp.json or in Settings, then use the Connect button and sign in.
Codex CLINot yet verified end to end.The connect page has the add command and the login step.
Gemini CLINot yet verified end to end.The connect page has the add command and the auth step.
GrokNot yet verified end to end.Add a custom connector at grok.com/connectors with the same URL. API use takes an agent token.
VS Code, Windsurf, Devin, Hermes Agent, OpenClaw, OtherNot yet verified end to end.Same server URL and Streamable HTTP. The connect page has a block for each.

"Partly verified" and "not yet verified end to end" are the connect page's own labels. The strongest label on that page is partly verified, and only Claude Code has it. The terms say we can't guarantee Motif will work with every agent.

If your client is not on the list, the Other section is the path to try, and only when that client can call a remote MCP server with OAuth or a bearer token. Don't treat a missing logo as a promise either way.

After it connects

Ask the agent to call get_usage and tell you the plan. That call costs nothing against your content allowance and shows every allowance and when it resets.

You can see every connected app, and disconnect it, at your account. You can see and revoke every connection.

A token for scripts or CI is created on the account Connect page and shown once. Keep it in an environment variable named MOTIF_TOKEN, never in a file you commit. A revoked token stops working within 60 seconds. The connect page has the header format.

Free accounts get the free subset of guides, for 30 days from sign-up. A premium guide on a free account returns an error that says the plan is required, and the agent can keep using free guides and checks. Creator is $9 a month. There are no overage charges. Hit a limit and that part pauses until it resets. Nothing is billed for going over.

Your coding agent's model usage is billed by its own provider, not by Motif.

Limits

This page is a status summary. If anything here ever disagrees with the connect page, the connect page wins. Client interfaces move. The connect page says its commands follow each client's documentation as of September 2026.

Editorial review of the guides is a separate question from whether the server connects. A working get_usage does not mean a guide has been reviewed. What reviewed means explains that label.

If the tools do not appear, make sure the URL ends in /mcp, restart the client or refresh its MCP list, then check service status.

Next step

Create the free account first if you want it, or add the server and sign in when the agent asks. Both paths use the same one-time email code. No card.
