What is Motif?

Motif is a maintained design library your coding agent calls over MCP, at https://mcp.asv-labs.com/mcp. It holds 738 guides for websites, apps, and PWAs, each with sources and a verification checklist. It adds design-rule checks (contrast, targets, measure, motion, speed) and project profiles, so a session starts from your brief and the decisions you approved. Free for 30 days, no card. Creator is $9 a month.

In one line

Your agent writes the code. Motif gives it taste. Taste here means those specifics, not a promise that the finished screen will look good.

Motif doesn't run a model for you. Your coding agent's model usage is billed by its own provider, not by Motif.

The home page puts the same offer in one line, then shows a demo. This page is the definition, the numbers, and the limits, in that order.

What the agent actually calls

Nine tools are live. The tool reference says 9 live and 0 coming. Search finds up to five guides. Opening a guide returns overview, implementation, verification, and limitations. check_design_contract checks facts your agent measured. Missing evidence is reported as unknown, never as a pass. A project profile stores the brief and the decisions you approved. An agent can propose a decision. It cannot approve or overwrite one. You approve it in the browser.

Fifteen guides can be read in full on the site before you sign in. The catalog stats endpoint reports free_guides 67. That is the free subset a signed-in agent can open. It is a different count from the 15 pages on the website. Do not add them together.

Price

Free is $0 for 30 days from sign-up, and no card is needed. The same sign-in step creates the account. No password. After the 30 days, every tool asks the agent to subscribe. Creator is $9 a month (US dollars, plus any tax that applies where you live). There are no overage charges.

Those are the launch defaults (policy launch-2026-09-23-v1). They may change, and the changelog lists changes. Rates, tokens, and download size are on the limits page and are not repeated here. One allowance serves the whole account, and every agent on it shares that allowance. When you hit a limit, that part pauses until it resets, and the error says when. Using the whole allowance is normal use, not abuse.

Cancelling stops the next renewal. There is no minimum term. You keep Creator until the end of the period you already paid for, then paid access ends. Free only covers the first 30 days after sign-up, so it does not start again after a paid plan ends. Motif does not give partial refunds for unused days in a month. Details are in cancellation and refunds.

Use templates in unlimited end products, for yourself or for clients, including commercial products. The licence to what Motif already delivered doesn't end with your subscription.

Limits, said plainly

Editorial review of the guides is in progress. Every guide tells your agent whether its current version has been reviewed. What reviewed means says what that label is. Reviewed means an AI review agent, working under the owner's authority, approved that exact version. It does not mean a person has read the guide. A later edit starts again as not yet reviewed. On 5 October 2026 the stats endpoint reported 110 of 738 guides reviewed (reviewed_guides at https://motif-join.asv-labs.com/v1/catalog/stats, catalog release corpus-v0.3.9-editorial-r9). Guides not yet reviewed may contain errors. Check their specifics before you rely on them.

The terms say we can't guarantee that anything built with Motif will look good, meet a standard (such as accessibility or legal compliance), or work with every agent. Check what you ship. Nothing in Motif is legal advice.

The connect page documents named clients and marks how far each one has been tested. Claude Code is partly verified. The other listed clients are not yet verified end to end. The short version is how Motif connects. It is not a claim that every MCP client works.

Ferrow, the photography studio on the home page, is fictional. An agent built that demo's website and its iOS and Android app by following Motif's guidance. It is not a customer, and it is not proof that your project will look like it.

You can see and revoke every connection.

Next step

Look inside before you pay. Read a guide on the site, or start a free account and ask your agent to call get_usage. That call does not spend your content allowance.
